We as a library service are committed to the library industry, by helping those interested in entering into our field to gain a better understanding of what it is we do through the opportunity to experience working in a library.

As work experience placements take up a considerable amount of staff time, the amount of students we can take on has been carefully considered.

Each semester the library service as a whole will endeavour to provide the opportunity for one University/TAFE student placement and one school/TAFE student placement, this equates to two University/TAFE students and two school/TAFE students per year.

These student placements will be organised through the Coordinator Library Customer Operations (CLCO) who will also be responsible for any paperwork, organising dates, times, inductions and a work roster, this is also to whom any library work experience queries should be forwarded to.

To enable these students to experience a part of all aspects of our library service they will be allocated to work with each library team during their stay with us. The team the student is working with, as per their roster, will be responsible for the student while they are with them. Each student will have a WHS, HR and site induction on their commencement with us. 

Individual teams may on their own decide they have the capacity to host extra students, for which they will be wholly responsible.

On top of this we have also committed to helping two University students per semester with Reference Interviews for one of their subjects, this is organised directly with the Coordinator Library Customer Operations, however students may sometimes ask staff on STAR, please direct these enquiries to the CLCO. On occasion you may be asked by the CLCO to help with conducting one of these Reference Interviews and will be provided with further information at the time.
