I may be mini but I am mighty!

As noted in the last Business Unit Meeting we would like a staff member to be dedicated to the mini pod (hint: take it in turns).

Of course this does not mean you need to stand next to the mini pod, actually the opposite is required. The mini pod is merely a tool for our newest STARring role :)

What can I do and how will the mini pod help while in this awesome role you ask?

Say hello to people as they arrive at the library.

Keep an eye out on people as they return items and if you see they are not aware of the system of placing items on trolleys as per the arrows, offer them advice on how our new system works.

 Put away holds.

Utilise the alarm viewer when the gates go off, without having to move away from the vicinity of the kiosks, minimising inconvenience for all.

When you notice someone borrowing and the items are showing red, which usually indicates their privilege requires renewal, we can do this easily at the mini pod.

If someone requires help with a PC they are nice and close :)

Put exceptions from the white trolleys through workflows, then disseminate as required.

Sort shelving materials and move them to their required locations.

If someone needs to make a payment, put the bill on Workflows, then take the borrower to a kiosk and show them how to pay bills through the kiosks.

Remember: Keep an eye out for each other and help out where needed, we are all able to move between the pods and across the floor to be accessible to our borrowers.

* Coming soon to a mini pod near you - a telephone hand set! *

If you knew Suzy like I know Suzy

Looks like Suzy will need to be kept working day and night since she’s responsible for running the services of the security gates. If we turn off the sort assistant, noticeably during the weekends at Unley, the alarm gates will sound but no listing of the item shows. But when the sort assistant is running, the alarm gates will sound and show what item/s triggered it.

So from now on we’ll keep both sort assistants on – Goodwood and Unley. We will occasionally give them a slight reprieve now and then but on the whole they’ll remain running. Suzy’s not only a slayer but a security guard as well. Good ole Suzy!
