Receipt rolls, kiosks, and EFTPOS machines: what do they have in common?

I discovered something last night that I thought I would share:

If a kiosk has run out of receipt roll, and the customer attempts to pay bills via EFTPOS, they will receive an error saying something like 'printer is unavailable' (I don't remember the exact error message!)

This is obviously to guarantee that the customer will receive a transaction receipt when paying via EFTPOS - what a smart machine!

So, if you see this message, move the customer over to another machine, and/or quickly change the receipt roll, and you are good to go.

Cheers,
Nicole

Power up!

Let's try an experiment with our pod mobile EFTPOS units. Instead of taking them off of the chargers during the day, we are going to leave them on. This is to prevent them from going to sleep and us having to wait for them to wake up when we go to serve a customer. 'Cause we're all about better customer experiences of course!

Feel free to remove them when you are using them, and wander as you see fit, but just pop them back on the charger cradle when you are done. Too easy!

Thanks to Kelly who highlighted that our mobile EFTPOS unit don't always wake on demand immediately. Keep on feeding back your suggestions for customer experience improvement stuff and or things 😍

The power of a few seconds...sometimes it *is* all about the money, money, money 💸

Because I'm a giant nerd, I elected to do an Accounting subject @ uni and really enjoyed it. One of the things that has stuck in my head since then (besides all those pleasingly aligned columns of Credits and Debits) is that "a dollar today is not worth a dollar tomorrow". For any number of reasons of course - inflation, interest, price rises etc. So why I am boring you with this, you ask?

Well because this post *is* all about the money, money, money! And it's also about time, which leads me to share a similar point about seconds and dollars... Taking a few seconds today saves minutes (and even hours) tomorrow.

What's that? I'm exaggerating? Honestly folks, I swear it's the truth. Have a conversation with any one of the diligent souls who work hard each week on any of our three branches cash reconciliation, and you will hear many tales that are sad but true.

So how can you use your valuable seconds to save our library service minutes and hours? Well here are some top tips:

  • Always take your time with any monetary transactions.
    • We provide such great customer service...our customers honestly don't mind waiting an extra minute while you focus on your transaction. It happens in every other business where you pay for items, so all good.
  • Exceptional EFTPOS
    • If you are taking cash, then all is as it ever was in Workflows. Too easy.
    • With EFTPOS you need to do the one tiny extra step of selecting CREDITCARD as the payment type. Also so easy but critically important to ensure our cash reports are accurate.
  • Location, Location, Location
    • Just remember that the Pod Mobile EFTPOS Unit location must = Workflows location
    • So if you are using the Toy Library EFTPOS machine, you need to be logged into Workflows as the Toy Library and so on.
    • This is to make sure our figures match up between Workflows and the EFTPOS units or else it shows one site as being over and the other site as under...and when this has happened in both directions it is mighty hard to track down, even with epic Detective skills.
    • Handy Hint: if the pod mobile EFTPOS unit has a blank screen, it just means it has gone to sleep. So just pop it back on the power cradle for a few seconds and it will reboot and you can use it straight away.
So go forth and be mindful of how your few seconds of time can save minutes and hours for our whole team later.

For further examples, please see Martine's post about how filing holds trolleys in order saves so much staff time and makes it way easier for when customers come in to collect a hold that hasn't hit the Hold shelf yet. Those who work a lot of arvo STAR shifts will know how many folks get their text about an item that has arrived via a black box and come straight in. Looking over every item on multiple trolleys is not a great customer experience, and makes us look super unprofessional. So use your seconds wisely to save not only minutes of our staff time but also our customer's time! Win win.
