It's in the bag!

Last night on the Unley late shift I was chatting to a couple who were so up with thier RFID skill levels that they issued their entire green bag of books by just popping the filled bag on the kiosk platform. It took them seconds and they didn't have to do any manual handling.

They were loving it and said that a library staff member gave them this tip early on in the new look Unley LibraryLand and they have been doing it ever since.

So massive bonus points to whichever STARtastic staff member shared this pure gold tip with them, and thought it was worth sharing with all so you can share it with more of our customers. Go you good things!

  1. This may have been someone else, but is also may have been me as it is a standard suggestion we use to make to Mt Gambier customers and is something I have been telling Unley customers, but maybe not sharing with all staff! As long as the customer knows how many items they have in their bag, it works really well! (It may not work if they have DVDs in the bag but is fine with books!).

While I am here, I thought I would also mention a quick and easy way to check which item is setting off the alarm gates in the situation when a customer has a great big bundle of items. If you take a handful at a time and wave them near the gates, you can quickly eliminate the items that are checked out (and unsecured) correctly, and get it down to the item/s that are not, rather than checking every item, or counting on the screen, or looking at titles...it almost feels like cheating!!
